Technology Integrated Lesson Plan

The Technology Integrated Lesson Plan that I have created below is a lesson on grammar and understanding how to use nouns and verbs to maximize students’ vocabulary. This lesson is intended for a first-grade classroom. I chose this lesson plan to represent my pedagogy and teaching because it shows the style of teaching that I believe is most influential and important for students’ learning. Interactive group lessons are very beneficial because they help students learn from each other and develop positive teamwork and social skills. This artifact shows specific examples of why I chose the lesson plan that I did and how it supports specific learning requirements. This lesson connects with ALCOS standards, ISTE standards, and certain levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The standards that it connects with explains what the students will be specifically learning in class and how they will be using technology to do so. I chose this lesson plan because it gives students a chance to use technology at a young age and learn how to maneuver between certain applications and assignments. This lesson also provides a formative assessment to give students a chance to show the material they have learned throughout the assignment to display to the class. I believe that including online activities and technology within assignments is very important because it gives students a chance to broaden their horizons and see what styles of learning best fit their needs. The reason that technology integration is so widely used and becoming more popular is that, in today’s generation, technology is becoming more prevalent, so it is important to provide up-to-date learning techniques to students to make sure they are successful in school and life.

Title of Lesson:

“Learning Vocabulary with Verbs”

Topic or Main Idea:

  • To teach first grader’s how to maximize their vocabulary through the use of nouns and verbs.

Learning Objectives:

  • To help students use their vocabulary more proactively by teaching what verbs are

  • Help them gain access verbs they already know and use the verbs they have learned

  • Allow students to create sentences with the verbs they have created in order to develop positive skills they can use academically and socially

  • Improve their language ability within their age level

  • To expand upon students’ technological skills in order to learn

Standards Used:

ISTE-

  • Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments

    • Creating and developing original learning experiences and assessments using modern tools and resources to expand learning in context and develop various educational skills

ALCOS-

  • “Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs” [L.K.1b]

Bloom's Taxonomy:

  • Understand

    • Students are asked to classify different verbs to their corresponding letters. They are asked to describe the verbs and create specific sentences using the verbs they have selected.

Materials/Resources:

  • Tablets with Internet access containing GoAnimate, Quizlet, and Canva

  • Alphabet Organizer

    • Calendar-style ABC chart

  • Bookmaking materials

  • Dictionaries and thesauri

  • Pencils, markers, and crayons

Procedures/Activities:

Before Class Procedures:

  • Create Quizlet account and set of flashcards with definitions of verbs and examples of verbs being used in sentences – download to tablets

  • Create GoAnimate examples (cartoon videos) of ways different verbs are used and how they are represented in the real world – download on tablets

  • Create worksheets from Canva for students to use when creating sentences from verbs

  • Prepare and print Action Adventure Books and worksheets

In Class Procedures:

  • Tell students they are going to play a game where they will act out words you say (ex. Jump, sit, sing, clap)

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Apply

  • Encourage students to create their own words and tell them the words they have just created are called verbs

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Create

  • Talk about verbs – definition, use, examples

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Remember

  • Explain that they will be creating their own Action Alphabet Book (a book that has verbs corresponding to letters of the alphabet and sentences using the verbs

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Apply

  • Ask students to brainstorm verbs that go along with letters of the alphabet (ex. R is to Run)

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Analyze

  • Write the verbs on the board next to the corresponding letters

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Understand

  • Ask students if they have any questions

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Understand

  • When they are ready and informed, have them, in groups, collect an Action Alphabet Book and worksheet. Provide them with dictionaries and thesauri and show them how they are used.

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Understand

  • Give each group a tablet that they can refer to. Students should use Quizlet and GoAnimate to help them understand the definition of terms

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Remember

  • Tell students to spend about 20 minutes creating a list of verbs for each letter of the alphabet

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Create

  • While students are working, walk around room providing assistance

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Evaluate

  • At the end of the 20 minutes, bring the class together. They can add the verbs they have created to the list on the board.

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Analyze

  • Using the verbs and sentences that have been created, create a poster on Canva to hang on the wall in the classroom

    • Bloom’s Level of Taxonomy: Create

Assessment:

Informal:

  • Flashcards and visual aids I will create on Quizlet and GoAnimate.

  • Will use these tools to create supplementary aids for students to use on tablets while participating in the activities

  • Will ask students to pair up and participate in the different applications Quizlet has, such as games and tests, to see how much they are advancing in their skills

    • By asking them to pair up and do the games together, they will be able to learn collaboration skills and learn from their peers.

Formal:

  • Worksheets I have created from Canva, which will ask students to write sentences using the verbs from the list I provided for them.

  • With the worksheets, I will be able to evaluate my students’ progress on verb usage and sentence creation.

  • By being able to successfully create sentences, they will be enhancing their vocabulary and utilizing words they have heard before, but not been able to use.

  • If the majority of the students succeeded, I will create a large poster on Canva that has the verbs, their definitions, and the sentences the students created to hang on the wall in the classroom for the students to refer to in the future.

Accommodations:

  • Students with disabilities – use tablets containing applications that cater to their specific needs

    • Ex. Have application helps translate the English language to the language the student best uses

  • Have teacher walk around the room and spend time helping students help each other with the assignment

  • Seat children with disabilities within general education classroom so they are not secluded or feeling left out

  • Have headphones and other tools accessible

  • Provide students with audiotaped lectures or books (if applicable)

  • Give copies of teacher’s lecture notes (if applicable)

  • Give students extra time to complete the assignment

  • Use a word processor for written work (if applicable)

Back Up Plan:

Before Class Procedures:

  • Create Quizlet account and set of flashcards with definitions of verbs and examples of verbs being used in sentences – download to tablets

  • Create GoAnimate examples (cartoon videos) of ways different verbs are used and how they are represented in the real world – download on tablets

  • Prepare a large list of verbs and sentences for students to refer to

In Class Procedures:

  • Tell students they are going to play a game where they will act out words you say (ex. Jump, sit, sing, clap)

  • Encourage students to create their own words and tell them the words they have just created are called verbs

  • Talk about verbs – definition, use, examples

  • Using prepared verb list, reenact verbs and how they are used in the real world

  • Ask students to name verbs that they like that begin with different letters of the alphabet

  • Ask students which verbs could be used to tell something that animals do

  • Tell students that they’re going to select a verb from the list provided and create sentences that go along with the definition (ex. W – walk, the girl is walking very quickly)

  • Repeat the above procedure for all the letters of the alphabet

Notes/Reflection:

  • This lesson plan definitely aids in helping students with various forms of disabilities, especially language disabilities

  • The use of tablets or computer while using Quizlet and GoAnimate is very helpful because it gives students other aids that can help them understand the lesson

  • Listening to the teacher is not always beneficial. These tools cater to their needs as a generation because they help students stay engaged through the use of electronics and animations

  • This lesson would also work without technology
